Ferroro Rocher is one of the world’s famous confectioner makers. However, did you know that they have been involved in suspicion of an allegation of fraud, which is relating to the supply of hazelnuts many years ago?
The case was started, when two banks lent US$40.4 million to a Turkish firm who is claimed to be the world’s largest hazelnut provider! Baskan Gida, the Turkish hazelnut provider is supposed to use the money to buy hazelnuts. However, they’ve transferred the money to another unknown company.
As a result, the bands didn’t get their money back. They assumed that Ferrero had something to do with the conspiracy. In this situation, the two banks decided to prosecute Ferrero and Baskan Gida!
Well, time marches on and it’s already seven years. However, the case hasn’t been decided yet! According to the judge, Mr. Justice Briggs, he described this trial as “very long and no doubt enormously expensive”. He mentioned that even the costs are greater than the US$40.4 million the two banks lent seven years ago!
When would this trial ended? Well, only the time will tell…
